The article “Internet Addiction: Too Much Time Online” discusses the overuse of media from teenagers nowadays, and how detrimental it may be to their lives. I personally believe that teenagers spend way too much time online. At first, this may seem like a minor concern in a world with far more pressing issues, but the facts show how real and scary this problem really is. More than a fifth of youths use media for over 16 hours a day. Can you imagine that? That is over twice the time that parents spend in their full time jobs. Of course it is okay to use media in moderation, but this is completely unacceptable. How can you have a life spending that much time on media? There are so many better things you can do with your life, so why are kids absolutely spending their entire lives online? As I was reading the signs of compulsive internet use, I felt immediate guilt on some of the points because I knew that they applied to me. I never used to think of myself as a victim, but now I see how I could even be addicted. I know a lot of people who use media much more than me, and I realized that this problem is everywhere. So many people’s lives are being lost to media. Imagine what we could do if we devoted our time to more important things rather than wasting it on media. Just imagine what we could achieve. Internet has destroyed people’s lives. We must end this madness now.
