Looking at Deep Thought Index# 3
The article ‘Internet Addiction: Too Much Time Online discuses the usage and consequences of kids and teens who use Internet. I personally believe that the majority of teenagers spend too much time online. For instance, I have some friends who, when they get home, go online instead of doing homework. Then they end up doing their homework late at night and thus, don’t sleep till about 1 or 2 in the morning. Then, I have other friends who on the weekends will spend around 16 hours online, straight without taking breaks at all. Also, I think that these problems occur, because the parents or guardians are too easy going with their child. They let their children do as they please with little or no consequences. So the children are taking advantage of the opportunities and are doing what they want. I feel that if the parents were a little stricter with their rules, Internet usage would be down a large amount. To restate what I was saying, the reason teenagers use the Internet so much, because it is fun, a good distraction from whatever is going on, and that teenagers don’t act responsible with their usage. However, the parents are also at fault here, for not being strict with their children regarding Internet usage and enforcing those rules. I believe that the percent of Internet usage and users would go down a significant amount if teenagers acted more responsible and that the parents were stricter.
